Leaf Collection

leaves

During leaf season (October 1 through April 1), employees of the Street Department pick up leaves that residents have piled for collection. Leaves are taken to various sites within the city for later composting.

Collection Guidelines

The City of Lafayette does not pick up leaves in plastic bags. Please place leaves in a pile by the curb or in paper bags.

  • Leaves will usually be picked up on your regular trash pickup day (or on a following day).
  • Leaves should be out at the curb by 6 a.m.
  • Rake or pile leaves to curb line, along the street
  • Do not place leaves under cars or park vehicles too close to leaf piles.
  • Do not put leaves in ditches.
  • Do not bag leaves in plastic bags.
  • Leaves should be free of any other yard waste, trash, and any other non-biodegradable debris. Other items will clog the vacuums causing delays in collection.

Note: The above guidelines only apply during leaf pickup season.

Green Tip
Instead of having your leaves removed, rake them into your garden or flower bed, or compost them to provide important nutrients and organic matter for your soil. Learn more about composting your lawn waste.
