Gene E. Cassman
Gene Edward Cassman, 72, of West Lafayette, died at 4:39 p.m. Saturday, October 29, 2011 at I.U. Health Arnett Hospital. He was born February 13, 1939 in Lafayette, the son of the late Harry E. and Velma F. Barrett Cassman. Gene lived all of his life in the Greater Lafayette area and graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School in 1956.

He is a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving from 1957 to 1965. His marriage was to Joan (Koch) Meyer Hedworth on January 10, 1981 in Lafayette and she survives.

Career, Retirement & Membership
Gene is a retired Lafayette police officer, serving the public for 20 years. Following his retirement from the police department, he worked for the U.S. Marshall Service as a federal court security officer. His memberships include the American Legion Post number 492 and the Fraternal Order of Police number 49.

Gene enjoyed collecting Monon Railroad memorabilia, fishing, target shooting, Purdue basketball and football, and especially spending time with his family and his beloved dog, Bono, and having coffee at "The Office" with his fellow retired police officers.
