We know how important it is for our economy to keeping Lafayette projects going. Streetscape Phase 3 enhancements to Main Street has begun.
The next blocks to get a facelift include the south side of Main Street from 10th to 11th Street, both sides of 10th Street from Ferry to Columbia, and the west side of 11th Street from Ferry to Main. Improvements will include enlarged sidewalks that enable some businesses to offer outdoor seating and gathering areas, enhanced lighting for safety, new landscaping, plantings and trees, extended curbs, benches, bike racks, clearly designated parking spaces for cars to maximize capacity, decorative crosswalks and brick pavers, and more.
“This is a move from good to great,” says Dennis Carson, Economic Development Director for the City of Lafayette. “The businesses in downtown Lafayette already represent a dynamic portfolio of attractions— the Main Street Streetscapes Project is all about making the experience more inviting, accessible and enjoyable getting to and from those places.”
Mayor Roswarski agrees, “In the past few years, downtown has been more vibrant than ever. Our commitment to improve downtown has resulted in more people wanting to live, work and shop here. I am excited to see how this will enhance upper Main Street which has become an important destination.”
Phase 3 construction is expected to be completed between November 1 and December 1, 2020. Reith‐Riley Construction is under contract for the project.
