The Lafayette Police Department is starting a new program to aid with future investigations and crime prevention efforts. In cooperation with CrimeReports.com, the police department will commence a camera registration program. This is designed for people who want to help with the investigative process in the chance a crime occurs near their home or business. The voluntary program allows people to register their surveillance cameras with the police department. Having contact information for owners of cameras can prove invaluable in investigating criminal activity or other emergency situations (lost children, abductions, etc.).
When people register their cameras, they will receive a sticker that they can place in the windows of their home or business to let people know that their cameras are registered with the Lafayette Police Department. This sticker may deter potential criminal activity at the specific location.
Anyone interested in registering their surveillance camera can do so at https://www.crimereports.com/camera_registration#/agency/11827.
The following describes a little more on the program from CrimeReports.com:
The CrimeReports Camera Registration program is a great way to help deter and solve crime quickly in your community. Providing your local law enforcement agency with the location of your security camera empowers them with the information needed to catch criminals faster. And since you own the camera, your participation always remains 100% voluntary.
• Register the location of your home or business camera with law enforcement.
• Your information is kept safe and secure; never made public.
• Only local law enforcement can see it.
• This service is provided for free to participants.
