Last week the 16th annual K9 Olympics were held at Vohne Liche kennels in Peru, Indiana. All 5 of the Lafayette Police Department K9 teams participated in the Olympics as a group with the Tippecanoe County Metro K9 Unit. K9 units participating were Ofc Domkowski and K9 Tommy, Ofc Demello and K9 Roy, Ofc Wilson and K9 Joeri, Ofc Saxton and K9 Boyka, Ofc Anderson and K9 Douwe.
The K9 team competed against teams from Australia, Brazil, US Secret Service, Department of Defense, as well as numerous other teams from local, State, and Federal Law Enforcement teams. The competition was based on drug detection, explosive detection, building search, obedience, speed, and open area searches.
Ofc Wilson and K9 Joeri placed 2nd and Ofc Domkowski and K9 Tommy placed 7th in the Road Clear competition, Ofc Wilson and K9 Joeri placed 10th and Ofc Domkowski and K9 Tommy placed 11th in the Narcotics Building competition, Ofc Domkowski and K9 Tommy placed 8th Ofc Anderson and K9 Douwe placed 11th Ofc Demello and K9 Roy placed 12th in the Narcotics Door Bottom competition, Ofc Wilson and K9 Joeri placed 5th and Ofc Domkowski and K9 Tommy placed 6th in the Narcotics Residence competition.
We would like to congratulate the entire K9 unit for their hard work in keeping the community safe and their performances at the K9 Olympics.
