Lafayette Police Department
20 N. 6th Street
Lafayette Indiana 47901

For Immediate Release: Contact: Sgt. Chad Robinson

Date: October 14, 2015

At approximately 12:44 pm on today’s date, the Lafayette Police Department responded to a workplace accident at Jim’s Garage, 1770 N 9th St. The preliminary investigation indicates that driver, Kenneth M. Woody (age 53 of Lafayette), was backing a quad axle tow truck when he accidentally ran over another driver, Robert “Lewis” Carter (age 56 of Lafayette). Mr. Carter appears to have been walking across the parking lot at the time of the accident. Mr. Carter was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mr. Woody and Jim’s Garage fully cooperated with the investigation. Mr. Woody consented to a blood draw after the incident, and drug or alcohol impairment is not suspected at this time. The Indiana State Police was contacted to inspect the commercial vehicle involved. No charges have been filed at this time.
