On this date, the Lafayette Police Department was dispatched to 304 S 6th Street reference an explosion that had occurred. This explosion resulted in the windows being blown out for apartment 2-West for this address.
Officers arrived and forced entry to this apartment but they did not locate anyone inside. They did observe that the refrigerator seemed to have been the source of the explosion and that there was a strong chemical odor within the apartment. The refrigerator’s door had been blown off and into a nearby counter. Lafayette Fire Department arrived and after checking the apartment did not locate any signs that there had been fire within the apartment.
While checking the area, Officers located bag in a nearby dumpster that they believed contained a “One Pot” methamphetamine lab. The Indiana State Police Meth Suppression Unit was contacted and when they arrived, they were able to confirm that the bag located in the dumpster did indeed contact a “One Pot” meth lab along with precursors.
