[ARCHIVED] LPD Arrests man accused of pointing gun

On Thursday November 19, 2015 at approximately 2140 hours, officers with the Lafayette Police Department were sent to the Marathon station at 1103 Teal Road regarding a reported shoplifting. Dispatch advised that when the clerk confronted the male suspect, a handgun was displayed and pointed. Officers arrived at the gas station and met with the victim. It was reported that an attempted theft had occurred, as well as a disturbance within the convenient store. The suspect then fled to his vehicle, and attempted to re-enter the store, while pointing the weapon at the clerk. The suspect did not gain entry back into the business, and fled in a vehicle.

A short time later, a trooper with the Indiana State Police was patrolling in the 2000-block of Veterans Memorial Parkway South, and located the suspect vehicle. Officers with the Lafayette Police Department and Indiana State Police continued their investigation, and subsequently arrested Jerome Montgomery, age 37, of Lafayette, on a variety of charges. These charges include Intimidation with a Deadly Weapon, Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon, Attempted Theft, Possession of Spice, and Possession of a Controlled Substance. Mr. Montgomery was transported to the Tippecanoe County Jail.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Lafayette Police Department at 765-807-1200, or the anonymous WeTip Hotline at 800-78-CRIME.

The fact a person(s) has been arrested or charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant(s) is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
