[ARCHIVED] Drug Arrest from Traffic Stop

At approximately 12:18 am, officers with the Lafayette Police Department stopped a vehicle for a minor traffic violation. The stop was near the intersection of 14th and Salem Streets. The driver initially provided a false name to officers. The driver was identified correctly as Ryan Sears, and was determined to have a suspended license. Further investigation by officers and a Lafayette Police Department K9 (Boyka) revealed numerous packages of cocaine, methamphetamine and heroin. Also located were syringes, pipes, paraphernalia and other items related to the use and distribution of illegal narcotics.

The evidence was later processed at Lafayette Police Headquarters. The total amount seized was 1.6 grams of cocaine, 12 grams of heroin and 13.3 grams of methamphetamine. These narcotics had been packaged into more than 35 individual bags.

Ryan Sears was taken into custody on the charges following charges:

Dealing Methamphetamine Level 2 Felony
Dealing a Narcotic Drug Level 2 Felony
Possession of Methamphetamine Level 4 Felony
Possession of a Narcotic Drug Level 4 Felony
Possession of Paraphernalia Misdemeanor A
Driving While Suspended-Prior Misdemeanor A
False Informing Misdemeanor B
