During the early morning hours of Tuesday June 20, 2017, officers with the Lafayette Police Department investigated two separate reports of armed robberies within a few minutes of each other in the downtown area.
At approximately 1:02am, LPD received the first report of a robbery, which took place near the area of 14th/Main. Two individuals reported walking in the area, when they were approached by two black males. A handgun was displayed and property was demanded. The first suspect was described as a black male, approximately 6’4”tall, with a thicker build, wearing a black shirt and dark jeans. This suspect was described as having short hair. The second suspect was described as a skinny black male, approximately 5’7” tall, wearing a red shirt and black jeans. The second suspect was further described a shaving dreadlocks which may have been pulled up in a ponytail. The two suspects fled the scene with undisclosed property. No injuries were reported in this incident.
At approximately 1:05am, LPD received the second reported robbery, which took place in the area of 12th/North. A delivery driver from a local restaurant was attempting to make a delivery of food in the area. The victim was approached by the suspect, whom he described as a black male wearing a dark colored shirt and jeans, with dreadlocks. The victim reported that he was robbed of cash at gunpoint. The victim additionally reported that his car was stolen from him. The victim was able to flee on foot, and was not injured. The stolen vehicle is described as a grey Chevrolet Impala bearing Indiana tag 310MGY.
The investigation into these incidents is ongoing. The possibility that these events are related is also being investigated.
