Transformation is key to a vital community. People and places must work together to cultivate change and in doing so create and inspire experiences that exceed expectations. The announcement this week of the new $16 million multi-purpose sports stadium planned for Columbian Park will take Greater Lafayette to the next level in growth and progress. This iconic stadium will be built on the grounds now inhabited by the historic Loeb Stadium, creating the perfect location for future generations to not only appreciate the more than 75 years of memories this area has provided, but allow residents and visitors to make new memories and experience yet another vibrant local amenity.
To ensure everything is well planned, from infrastructure and construction to parking and pedestrian access, as well as taking into account the needs of our current stadium partners, construction on the new stadium is not set to begin until August 2019. We assure you that it will be worth the wait. To avoid using any property related taxpayer dollars, funding will come from the Economic Development Income Tax (EDIT), as well as local fundraising endeavors. It takes a lot of people working together to make great things happen. The result of this multi-purpose complex is a game changer for our area. This development will be an anchor of our city and guarantee economic growth and extraordinary quality of life.
