Police Respond to Shots Fired
On Tuesday, March 13th, around 2:45 PM, members the Lafayette Police Department responded to a shots fired complaint inside a residence in the 1100 block of Washington Street. Officers arrived and spoke to the complainants, who advised there had been a domestic disturbance and the man in the argument fired several shots. The fired shots did not strike anyone and the man had not pointed the firearm at anyone prior to shooting. Two people, who were family members, fled the home without injury. No other people, other than the man shooting, were reportedly inside the residence.
Officers attempted to make contact with the man, who had locked the doors to the residence and was not responding to officer requests. Officers maintained a perimeter while SWAT officers were deployed, along with police negotiators. Police obtained a search warrant and made entry into the residence. Once inside, police found a male in the living room with a single gunshot wound. The Lafayette Police Department did not fire any rounds during the entirety of this incident.
Police contacted the Tippecanoe County Coroner’s Office to investigate the manner and cause of death. At this point any further information will be released by the Tippecanoe County Coroner. The incident remains under investigation.
