[ARCHIVED] New Loeb Stadium coming in 2020

Loeb Stadium Field Rendering

A brand new Loeb Stadium is coming to Columbian Park. The current stadium was built in 1940 and is the home field for Lafayette Jefferson High School baseball, American Legion baseball, the Colt World Series, and Prospect League team, Lafayette Aviators. A steering committee dedicated to addressing the needs of the community held two public forums and received over 600 survey responses regarding features and elements.

American Structurepoint, Inc. was selected to design the new stadium, which will be funded through an Economic Development bond. Kettelhut Construction was awarded the construction management contract. The stadium is expected to cost approximately $16 million.

The new stadium is to be built on the existing site and will include a new main entrance on Wallace Avenue. Design elements will include a field orientation change that places home plate in the Main St/Wallace Ave corner, multiple concession stands and bathrooms, and a terrace level with hospitality suites. These features will provide safety and comfort for the public while creating a true multi‐use stadium.

Mayor Tony Roswarski thanked the community for making their wishes known, saying, “Lafayette has always been a baseball town. We will honor this legacy of offering a publicly owned and managed stadium as a component of our award‐winning Parks system, one that features large in the memories of our residents, and draws visitors from around the globe.”

Construction will begin in September 2019 and is expected to conclude in 2020.
