[ARCHIVED] Restore Sagamore Project Completed!

Sagamore Ribbon Cutting

When the State of Indiana relinquished US 52 to the City of Lafayette in 2014, these dreamers joined forces to plan the renovation of a segment of Sagamore Parkway from Schuyler Avenue to Main Street. The goals of efficiently moving traffic, improving drainage, sidewalks, trails, and safety, most of which needed to be done under live traffic, were completed in three major phases. Removing and reconstructing 3.5 miles of travel lanes, storm drains and medians on some of the busiest roadway through town encompassed
• 5.5 miles of sidewalk;
• 1 mile of trail;
• 10.5 miles of curb;
• 4 miles of storm sewer (not including the almost 6 miles of storm sewer under Earl Avenue needed to handle the runoff from Sagamore!);
• 26,000 plants and trees;
• 157 decorative lights;
• 15,000 tons of stone; and
• 90,500 tons of asphalt,
all completed in only five construction seasons, thanks to a monumental work force and the great patience of the public.

This incredibly complex and difficult project has resulted in Sagamore Parkway being a beautiful thoroughfare that showcases commercial business and welcomes travelers of all kinds. A most sincere thank you goes out to all involved and everyone who endured the detours and delays. We especially thank the major design and construction partners of Butler Fairman & SeufertAmerican Structurepoint, Inc.Milestone Contractors, L.P., and Rieth-Riley Construction. The end result is a stunning corridor; a pleasure to travel that will efficiently and aesthetically serve our city for many years.
