2018 Lafayette Christmas Parade Cancelled
LAFAYETTE, INDIANA – November 30, 2018 – After careful consideration of the weather forecast with emergency personnel, the City of Lafayette, Greater Lafayette Commerce and Tippecanoe Emergency
Management Agency regret to announce that the Christmas Parade scheduled for Saturday, December 1, 2018 has been cancelled. This very difficult decision was made due to the expectation
of significant rainfall and the possibility of dangerous lightning and heavy winds. Priority has been given to the welfare and safety of participants and spectators; evacuation of a large crowd from the downtown
staging area could prove both difficult and dangerous. The decision has been made on this date in order to allow time to notify all those involved in planning and implementation. Your assistance in
disseminating this cancellation is greatly appreciated.
The size of the parade and the number of participating entries make it impossible to reschedule for this year. Going forward, the planning committee will discuss the possibility of adding a makeup date in the
event of another necessary weather-related cancellation. Please note that this cancellation is only for the parade. Any other indoor events scheduled in the downtown area, including the presentation of The Polar Express at the Long Center for the Performing Arts, are not affected by this cancellation.
