At about 2:13pm on 1-20-2020, Lafayette Police Officers responded to a 911 call of a man with a gun at the intersection of 23rd St and State St. Upon arrival, officers located a man armed with a handgun and began negotiating with him to surrender. During that time, an officer fired his weapon striking the armed man. Officers attempted life-saving efforts, but the man died at the scene.
No officers were injured. The public is no longer at risk.
The intersection of State St and 23rd St is closed and will remain closed for several hours.
