Update: Lafayette Police Officer Involved Shooting

At about 2:13pm on 1-20-2020, Lafayette Police Officers responded to a 911 call of a man with a gun at the intersection of 23rd St and State St. Upon arrival, officers located a man armed with a handgun and began negotiating with him to surrender. During that time, Officer Nathan Stoneking fired his weapon striking the armed man. Officers attempted life-saving efforts, but the man died at the scene.

Officer Stoneking is a 4 and a half year veteran with the department.  He remains on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation.  A shooting review board is scheduled for Monday January 27th, 2020.
