Conveniently located in the middle of the city, Murdock Park occupies 39 acres of urban forest. Featured is a 0.52-mile interpretive trail that allows visitors to identify nearly 40 varieties of trees located within the park. The sled run is a favorite wintertime attraction in Lafayette, entertaining kids and adults alike. Katy’s Cabin provides sled rentals, hot chocolate, and other concessions. A snow machine ensures that the perfect amount of white powder is available when cold temperatures prevail. Other attractions include tot and multi-age playgrounds, a redesigned 18-hole disc golf course, Brian Cardinal basketball court, grills, restrooms, and picnic areas. Two 50-seat picnic shelters are available to rent.
The Lafayette Parks Department reserves the right to make snow when deemed appropriate for the conditions:
- Snow is made after 3 consecutive days of temperatures below 27 degrees
- Weather conditions need to be favorable for our staff to make snow (little chance of rain, lower temperatures, etc)
Rental FacilitiesThere are two shelters available to rent at Murdock Park. Both seat 50 people comfortably. The shelter near the restrooms can be rented for a fee of $75.00 and the shelter near the playground and can be rented for a fee of $50.00.
One shelter is located near the restrooms off of Cason Street, and the other is located near the playground off of Ferry Street. Please see the Murdock Park Map for more location details.
