Proposed Public Safety Building and Parking Garage

Public Safety Building and Parking Garage Virtual Meeting Room

The City of Lafayette held a virtual Public Community Meeting on December 16, 2020 to discuss the proposed Public Safety Building and Public Parking Garage that will be built on the south side of Columbia Street, between 6th and 7th Streets, in downtown Lafayette. The estimated cost for the entire project is approximately $55 million with construction starting in the spring of 2021.

The community meeting was to gather public input over the next few months on the proposed concepts presented by Mayor Roswarski and Police Chief Patrick Flannelly. As the City of Lafayette continues to grow, our citizens should have continued access to safety services, infrastructure that provides leading technology and innovative safety programs to meet the public’s expectations. The new structure will also assist in the City’s recruitment and retention of top talent to provide our residents a safe community.

The new connecting parking garage will support both the City staff and the public to enjoy the activities and events of Downtown or to do their daily business.  With a continued focus on public spaces that serves our community, the site is proposing a green space between the parking garage and safety building for events, meetings and public gatherings.

The public is asked to participate in additional engagement opportunities by visiting the Virtual Meeting Room to view the presentation, ask questions, and leave feedback at www.tinyurl.com/yyzv6eoq.  If you have questions regarding the new Public Safety Building and Public Parking Garage, please contact Dennis Carson, Director of Economic Development, at web-ed@lafayette.in.gov.
