On September 28, 2015, Lafayette School Corporation administration and LSC school security were notified of a student that possibly had a firearm on Lafayette Jefferson High School property. School officials and officers working at the school quickly identified and located the student. The student was escorted to a safe location where a search occurred. During the search, a handgun with ammunition was located in a backpack. Officers secured the weapon and transported the15-year-old juvenile male to the Lafayette Police Department. He was later arrested for possession of a handgun and possession of stolen property.
No injuries were involved in this incident. With strong cooperation between the Lafayette School Corporation and the Lafayette Police Department, the firearm was recovered quickly and the student was detained and transported to Juvenile Probation for processing.
