The Lafayette Police Department will be partnering with Public Safety Corporation moving into 2016. Public Safety Corporation has developed a software called CryWolf that assists municipalities in administrating false alarm ordinance violations and enforcement. Acting as the department’s designee, the company will begin monitoring the city’s false alarm incidents and issue notices of violations. This will free up time and resources, previously required by the Crime Prevention Unit. In turn, these resources will be re-invested in the policing of our community.
Public Safety Corporation will work closely with the Lafayette Police Department to reduce the number of false alarms that initiate police response. The objective is to reduce the number of false alarms that drain the police department’s resources.
Beginning January 1, 2016, Public Safety Corporation will begin issuing violations of the City of Lafayette’s false alarm ordinance. If an alarm user receives a notice of violation of the City of Lafayette’s existing ordinance, they will now be able to pay the fine on a website established by Public Safety Corporation. The website is located at https://www.crywolfservices.com/lafayettein/. Nothing is changing regarding the current city ordinance and waivers of the first three alarm violations of the calendar year will need to be addressed by the Chief of Police.
