[ARCHIVED] Crash Arrest

On Monday, June 27 at about 8:45 am Lafayette Police responded to the Lafayette Jefferson High School tennis courts for a report of a truck having crashed into the fencing surrounding the tennis courts. Officers arrived and noticed a tan Ford truck, driven by 61-year-old Johnny Burt, had indeed crashed into the southwestern portion of the tennis courts. There were no pedestrians struck by the truck. Two teen-aged children sustained a minor injuries as a result of being struck by fence debris.
Burt was transported from the crash scene to an area hospital. Officers conducted an OWI investigation, suspecting Burt of having operated the truck while intoxicated on a controlled substance. Police arrested Burt for operating a vehicle while intoxicated on a controlled substance and possession of marijuana. Burt remained in the hospital for evaluation.
