On August 11, 2016, at approximately 11:30pm, officers with the Lafayette Police Department responded to Buffalo Wild Wings (BW3’s – 2715 S. Creasy Lane) for a report of shots fired. Further information indicated that a vehicle was stolen during this same time.
Officers located the stolen vehicle travelling along Teal Road and attempted to make a traffic stop. The vehicle fled from officers who stopped pursing. The vehicle crashed at 18th and Adams when the driver jumped out as it was moving. The driver then fled on foot in the area. The vehicle was recovered with minor damage from rolling through several yards and striking a street sign. Officers from the Lafayette Police Department, Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Department, West Lafayette Police and the Indiana State Police temporarily blocked off and searched the area. The suspect was not located. Crime Scene Investigators processed evidence on scene.
Investigation revealed the vehicle was stolen as the owner had gone into BW3’s to pick up a food order. The shot was fired when the owner attempted to retrieve the vehicle as it was being stolen. This all took place outside the business. There were no injuries reported in this incident.
The suspect is described as a black male with short dreadlocks.
The investigation is ongoing. The Lafayette Police Department asks that anyone with any further information about this investigation please contact the Lafayette Police Department or call the We-Tip Hotline at 1-800-78 Crime.
