Home Robbed on N 28th Street – Update / Arrests
On August 19th at about 1:45 am Lafayette Police responded to a report of an armed robbery inside the home of a residence in the 600 block of N 28th Street. Three alleged suspects fled the scene prior to police arrival. One of the alleged suspects, Adam Smith 27 of Lafayette, was appended in the early morning hours and arrested by police for Burglary, Armed Robbery, Battery, Criminal Confinement, Intimidation, and Pointing a Firearm.
Police later received a tip the other two alleged suspects, Steven J. Burns II [25] and his brother, Joseph Ira Burns [23] were held up inside a house on South 30th Street. Lafayette Police deployed resources to the scene, including SWAT officers, K-9 units, and negotiators to surround the house as a search warrant was obtained.
Detectives secured a search warrant and contact was made with the subjects inside the home. Both brothers were handcuffed and detained without incident. Patrol officers and detectives remained on scene to secure the home and complete the search warrant.
Steven Burns II and Joseph Burns were arrested for Burglary, Armed Robbery, Battery, Criminal Confinement, Intimidation, and Pointing a Firearm. Lafayette Police detectives continue to investigate the case. The case will be forwarded to the Tippecanoe County Prosecutors office to be reviewed for charges.
