Sergeant Will Carpenter of the Lafayette Police Department announced today that the Tippecanoe County DUI Task Force, consisting of the West Lafayette Police Department, Purdue Police Department, Lafayette Police Department, and the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Department worked 117.5 hours of federally funded overtime between January and March 2017. During these enforcement patrols, officers made 105 traffic stops and made 27 arrests, including 14 for driving under the influence, 4 for underage drinking violations, and 7 criminal misdemeanor and felony arrests. The task force also issued 88 warnings for various traffic related violations.

Throughout the rest of the fiscal 2017 year, additional federally funded overtime patrols will be utilized to crack down on impaired drivers. Agencies that participate in this effort are funded by grants through the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI).
