Mayor Roswarski swears in Laura Vanier as newest Police Merit Commission Member

On Friday, September 2nd, Mayor Tony Roswarski administered the oath of office to Laura Vanier, making Laura the newest member of the Lafayette Police Department Civil Service Commission.  Laura fills a vacancy created in August 2017, when member Clyde Hughes resigned his position due to moving out of state.

Vanier is a long-time resident of Lafayette and worked as a commercial realtor for the Shook Agency. Laura is married to Jacques Vanier and the couple raised three sons.  Laura graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Purdue University, coached the Purdue’s women’s swim team, and taught while in graduate school at Purdue.  In her career, Laura has been actively involved in various community organizations and professional boards.

Members of the Lafayette Police Department Civil Service Commissioners have many critical responsibilities.  Merit Board members are responsible for hiring new officers, conducting internal promotions, and handling any disciplinary issues within the department.

The Lafayette Police Department welcomes Laura and thanks her for her willingness to give to our community.
