LPD K9 injured during foot pursuit
On September 7th, 2017 at approximately 8:40 pm an officer with the Lafayette Police Department attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 500 block of S 3rd St. The vehicle fled from the traffic stop. Officers found the vehicle shortly afterwards on Green St and observed the driver fleeing on foot. Officer Schutter and his K9 partner Rocky pursued the driver on foot to the 200 block of Smith St.
During the foot pursuit LPD K9 Rocky was attacked by a dog that was running at large on Smith St resulting in injury to K9 Rocky. An LPD officer fired one shot striking the dog resulting in its death, as it was attacking K9 Rocky. K9 Rocky was taken to the Purdue Animal hospital for treatment.
The driver that fled from the traffic stop, Daryl Johnson (43) was arrested for Resisting Law Enforcement, Obstruction of Justice, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of a Synthetic Drug. He was transported to the Tippecanoe County Jail.
