First Quarter of Fiscal Year 2018
Sergeant Will Carpenter of the Lafayette Police Department announced today that the Tippecanoe County Traffic Safety Partnership, consisting of the West Lafayette Police Department, Purdue Police Department, Lafayette Police Department, and the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Department worked a total of 52 hours of the federally funded DUI enforcement patrols during the first quarter of fiscal year 2018. During the quarter, which consisted of October, November, and December 2017, officers stopped 124 vehicles, made 16 criminal arrests for various offenses including misdemeanor and felony DUI, issued 143 tickets and warnings.
Throughout the rest of the fiscal year 2018, additional federally funded overtime patrols will be utilized to crack down on impaired drivers. Agencies that participate in this effort are funded by grants through the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI).
