Available with the Lafayette Police Department


POSITION: Substitute School Crossing Guard 

LOCATION: Varies in accordance with assigned Lafayette School Corporation locations 

HOURS: As-needed basis; approximately 2 hours per day, Monday through Friday 

SALARY: $18.50 per crossing time, not to exceed $37.00 per day No benefits 


DESCRIPTION: Serves as School Crossing Guard for locations within the Lafayette School Corporation. Provides for the safe movement of children to and from school when crossing public roadways and intersections by observing gaps in the traffic and leading the children across the roadway or intersection. Prior to serving as a regular school crossing guard, this position initially performs school crossing guard duties while a school crossing guard is absent. 

REQUIREMENTS: Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid Indiana driver’s license. Must have adequate transportation and a working telephone or other means of communication. Ability to communicate and speak English clearly. Maintain regular attendance and punctuality. 

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Incumbent’s duties involve physical exertion, such as standing/walking, and working in inclement weather, including heat, cold rain or snow.
