[ARCHIVED] Restore Sagamore

Beginning April 2, South Street will be reconstructed between Earl Avenue to Sagamore Parkway and from Sagamore Parkway to Hamman Street. Local traffic to businesses will be maintained; however, South Street will be closed to through traffic.  Sagamore Parkway will remain open for northbound and southbound motorists, though only one lane northbound and southbound.

The project is expected to last 90 days. Intersection improvements are being made as part of the Restore Sagamore construction project. The closure of South Street at this intersection is going to be a significant disruption to the traffic flow in the area. If you normally drive in and around this intersection, expect congestion and delays. Please see the attached detour maps.

The City of Lafayette encourages people to continue to visit the businesses in the affected areas, but you will need to allow more time to travel and practice patience. City officials expect congestion and delays along the detour routes.  If you can find a safe route around the affected area that does not include the detour, please do so.  The Lafayette Police Department is contacting local businesses and factories to explain the impact this closure will have, as well as to provide information to allow for proper planning.

In addition to the Restore Sagamore project, the INDOT will be performing construction work and repaving on Teal Road from 30th Street to Sagamore Parkway, as well as Sagamore Parkway south to County Road 800 South.  During construction INDOT will be restricting traffic and there will be periodic lane shifts and closures of the roads, including Sagamore Parkway in front of the Tippecanoe Mall.

The Lafayette Police Traffic Unit will be in the area of these construction projects for increased enforcement. Lafayette Police will be observing for aggressive drivers, speeders, and motorist disobeying posted signs.  By now, many of us are accustomed to the ongoing construction projects and the inconvenience these traffic restrictions can cause.  Please do your part to reduce the impact on you and your family by taking the appropriate steps now.  The Lafayette Police Department will work to update citizens with posts on Next Door, as well as Nixle and Twitter.
