Battery with a Deadly Weapon Arrest

 

On July 25th, around 4:00 pm, Officers with the Lafayette Police Department responded to a reported stabbing incident near the intersection of North 18th Street and Morton Street.  Officers arrived and located the victim, Joseph Taylor 62 of Lafayette.  Taylor had a stab wound to on his upper torso area and was taken to an area hospital for treatment for his injuries.

Officers located the alleged suspect, Steven Brown 29 of Lafayette, nearby in the area of North 15th Street and Morton Street.  Brown was arrested without further incident. Brown was arrested for Battery with a Deadly Weapon, Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon, and Intimidation with a Deadly Weapon.  Brown was transported to the Tippecanoe County jail.

The case has been turned over to the Tippecanoe County Prosecutors Office for review.  Police continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the stabbing incident.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the Lafayette Police Department at (765) 807-1200 or the anonymous We-Tip Hotline at (800) 878-CRIME.


The fact a person has been arrested or charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
