Lafayette Police Investigating Homicide

On November 18, 2018 at 4:32am the Lafayette Police Department responded to a call of several shots fired at 3117 Rubble Way apartment H. Upon arrival officers located one victim of a gunshot wound. The victim was identified as 18 year old Jontae Billups-Brooks.  During the initial investigation officers also learned of a second shooting victim who had left the scene and was located in the 3400 block of Coventry Lane.  The second victim was identified as Keyonte Billups-Brooks and he was transported by ambulance to Indiana University Hospital.  Keyonte was treated for his injuries and later released from the hospital.  Keyonte & Jontae are brothers.  Jontae Billups-Brooks was transported to Saint Elizabeth Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

The Lafayette Police Department Detectives Division is currently investigating this case as a homicide and a person of interest in this case has been identified.  We are asking for the public’s help in locating 20 year old Alexander Garcia-Johnson.  Garcia-Johnson is a white male, 5’ 11” tall and approximately 125lbs.  He was last seen wearing a dark colored sweatshirt and white tennis shoes.  Garcia-Johnson should be considered armed and dangerous.

The investigation is ongoing and we do not believe that this was a random act of violence.

Anyone with information regarding the location of Mr. Garcia-Johnson is encouraged to call the Lafayette Police Department at 765-807-1200 or the WeTip Hotline at 1-800-78-CRIME.
