Winter Storm Press Release

The national weather service has issued a winter storm watch for our area for tomorrow.  We are asking the public to help our area first responders out this weekend.  If you don’t absolutely have to be out, please consider staying home.  Area police were inundated with accidents and slide-offs last weekend and we are expecting similar if not worse weather conditions.

If you do have to be out make sure to follow these tips:

-Leave early to get to your destination

-Clear all of your car windows, headlights, and taillights of any snow and ice before driving

-Slow Down and leave extra space between you and the vehicle in front of you

-Make sure your cell phone is charged and carry a charger with you

-Carry a supply of food, water, and warm clothing in your vehicle in the event you do become stranded

-If you’re heading out of town make sure to have a full fuel tank

If a snow emergency is declared by the city, any vehicle parked on an emergency snow route will be towed 12 hours after the emergency is declared.  A list of emergency routes is available on the city website at: https://www.lafayette.in.gov/341/Snow-Removal

Even without a snow emergency we ask that if you can park your vehicles off of the street to please do so.  Removing vehicles from the roadway will assist our snow plow operators with clearing the streets faster, more efficiently, and more safely.

This winter storm is expected to bring with it brutal below zero wind chills.  If you have pets make sure to bring them in out of the weather, or provide them with adequate shelter. If it’s too cold outside for you, it’s probably too cold for your pets as well.

Thank You,

Sergeant Matt Gard
