Household Hazardous Wastes (HHW) are leftover household products that can catch fire, react, or explode under certain circumstances, or that are corrosive or toxic. Typically, these items are labeled with terms like Corrosive, Caution, Combustible, Danger, Flammable, Poison, Toxic, and Warning.
While not regulated like Industrial Hazardous Waste, Household Hazardous Waste is just as dangerous to residents and the environment if not properly disposed of.
We provide a drop-off location for Tippecanoe households to safely dispose of their hazardous waste for free. The household hazardous waste drop-off is located at the transfer station at 2770 North 9th Street. It is open during the transfer station's operating hours on MWF 7am - 4pm, TTh 7am - 6pm, and Saturday 7am - 1pm. It is not necessary to call ahead before coming to drop off materials. An aerial image of the transfer station showing the household hazardous waste drop-off can be seen below. All liquids must be in quantities of 5 gallons or less, in a clearly labeled container, and in a leak-proof container.
We do NOT accept electronics, appliances with Freon, or latex paint.
