Citizens Police Academy

The Lafayette Police Department's Citizen's Academy is an educational outreach program designed to provide citizens a greater understanding of the inner-workings of their police department and of the role law enforcement plays within the criminal justice system.

Classes

The Citizen's Academy is held each Fall, and meets 1 evening per week for 8 weeks, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. These classroom sessions are held in the Public Safety Center located at 601 Columbia St, Lafayette, IN. In addition to the classroom sessions, participants are encouraged to participate in "ride-alongs" with our patrol officers- providing a real-life perspective on contemporary policing. 

Registration for 2026's class will open mid-June, follow LPD on Facebook for sign-up information.
